The international chemicals and pharmaceuticals group Solvay intends to establish a new ‘Discovery Lab’ to complement the existing Research & Development facilities at its location in Weesp.
Two themes played a major role in the design of this discovery laboratory. Firstly, to create unity between the various buildings, whereby enabling interaction between employees. In addition, the design features a consistent division into so-called ‘clean’ and ‘dirty’ areas. This logistical structure offers space for considerable flexibility within the labs.
Sustainability The GreenCalc calculation model has been implemented to quantify sustainability ambitions. For the Discovery building, a decision was made to implement a GreenCalc target value of 180 and an absolute minimum level of 150. The most important measure for the building, as far as sustainable energy supply is concerned, is the use of a cold/heat storage (KWO) system.
