The Trianon Apartment is a two-generation home, a mother who is a psychologist and teacher and her studious little son. She likes to cook, he loves music. Originally with only one bedroom, the 35-square-metre apartment would have needed two bedrooms, each with its own study area, a well-equipped kitchen, and dining space for both.

The bathroom was kept in its original place, and the bedrooms were positioned at the ends of the apartment, as far apart as possible to ensure privacy and concentration for study on such a small floor plan. The core of the house is where the meeting between mother and child takes place. In the integrated living, dining, and kitchen space, while one prepares a meal, the other plays videogames, while one reads a book on the sofa, the other plays the cello.

To organize and homogenize the space, a bookcase holds access to the son's bedroom, TV and equipment, access to the kitchen and dining counter. The custom cabinetry is made to take advantage of every corner, such as the custom sofa that matches the angles of the existing walls and even has chests below it and the side tables. The compact but well-equipped kitchen has a countertop for face-to-face meals. The mother's bedroom has a retractable workbench that in conjunction with the mirror can function as a dressing table. The son's bedroom has a bunk bed with a desk to free up more free areas for other activities.

The furniture is composed by Brazilian and international famous design pieces. The highlights are the X stools by Zanine Caldas, the Mocho stool by Sergio Rodrigues and the Wishbone chair by Hans Wegner. The works of art are by Brazilian artists, such as the cushions by Paira, the tapestry by Alex Rocca, the watercolours by Marina Weffort and the canvases by Yasmin Guimarães.

The light wood parquet floor and white walls and cabinetry bring a sense of spaciousness and capture the light in a new way. The colour and material palette is sweet, subtle, delicate, and has playful touches, with choices that please and represent mother and child.
