Located in southwest of Berlin in Steglitz neighborhood, JKM Studio redeveloped a 19th-century building with minimalist, modern design. This two floors apartment has around 100 m², seamlessly merging innovation with history. Embodying tranquility and contemporary aesthetics, it harmoniously marries functionality and style in a space that evolves with the inhabitant‘s lifestyle.
When designing the project, it was highly important to capture the apartment's character and craft an optimal environment that appeals. The presence of numerous green spaces in the lively neighborhood was of great importance. For the creative plans, it was essential to allow a wide view to the outside. The design concept of Treitschkestraße 16 was meticulously crafted, evident not only in the thoughtful layout of the penthouse floor plan but also in the intentional selection of high-quality materials.
Through the seamless integration of natural hues and organic materials like wood and textiles, a contemporary and ageless residential concept is born. Drawing inspiration from the Japandi trend, elements from Scandinavian and Japanese cultures intertwine to form a unique stylistic fusion. A minimalist design ethos intersects with understated aesthetics and a sense of comfort.
Upon entering the apartment, you're welcomed through a broad hallway into the expansive eat-in kitchen, awash with natural light streaming in from outside.
The open floor plan of the recently renovated attic apartment presents versatile opportunities for utilizing the spaces for a range of activities. The area is defined by the generously sized living and kitchen space, featuring a distinct dining corner, a cozy sofa area, and direct access to the terrace. The strategic use of glass elements, such as the glass railing along the staircase and the floor-to-ceiling glass partition, fosters a seamless connection between the two levels, allowing daylight to grace every facet of the building.
Utilizing a glazed partition, abundant daylight gracefully filters into the apartment‘s lower expanse from the gallery. A curtain, spanning the expansive glass wall, presents the opportunity to transform the gallery into a serene sanctuary. Comprising a bedroom, walk-in closet, and relaxation zone, the gallery can be accessed via a living room staircase or independently through the hallway. This ingenious spatial arrangement not only reimagines privacy but also introduces an inventive means of defining personal and communal domains. The curtains‘ seamless delineation of space enables a harmonious flow, granting inhabitants the freedom to adapt the environment to their specific desires.
Our focus revolves around unlocking the hidden potential of every corner. The demolition of partition walls between the kitchen and living area transforms these spaces into a dynamic meeting point. Storage spaces under the stairs and separate entrance areas to the gallery redefine how the clients perceive spatial efficiency. Every inch serves a purpose, creating an environment that seamlessly adapts to the needs. Less is truly more in these crafted designs. Embracing the art of minimalism, we‘ve created a canvas that celebrates simplicity without compromising on elegance. Clean lines, uncluttered spaces, and an aesthetic purity that rejuvenates the soul.
Modern luxury wouldn‘t be complete without a touch of warmth. The design encapsulates harmony, where elegance meets coziness. The ambiance we‘ve crafted envelopes the family in comfort. The integration cooker hood, in the kitchen worktop is a prime example of the technical perks.
The central objective in furniture design is to encapsulate the mood of a space and extend it outward by employing a combination of materials and color palettes. Our focus lies on utilizing premium-grade materials and attention to detail in order to achieve this. An innovative embodiment of this concept lies in our design, where the hall closet serves as a bathroom cabinet on the other side, blurring the lines between form and function. By practically replacing a wall, our furniture redefines spatial dynamics.
The equipment of the bathroom is high quality and modern. The design becomes unique due to individual solutions of the furniture and the choice of materials. For instance, the pedestal for the bathtub and the vanity unit are made with teak wood by our carpenters and long-term partners. Teak wood is suitable for wet areas and does not lose quality. The floor covering made of floating screed is not only aesthetically pleasing, but also easy to clean and protects against moisture thanks to an additional sealing.
The bathroom cabinet has a lot of storage space, so that even the washing machine, laundry tilt and other bathroom accessories disappear - the bathroom thus always remains tidy and presentable.
Space is an expression of individuality, and our approach to furniture planning embraces this principle. Each piece is thourougly designed and placed, resulting in an ensemble that harmonizes with the user‘s personality while elevating the overall design aesthetic.
