Taking inspiration from Hollywood movies, pop art and old school arcade games, Shed has designed Venue 56 Golf to be truly iconic and a stable on the burgeoning Kuwaiti hospitality scene.
London-based interior architecture & design studio Shed, bring their winning competitive socialising concept to the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region with the opening of the new Venue V56 Golf in Kuwait City. A first for the city and beckoning a new era in hospitality design in the region, Shed teamed up with the partners of Venue 56, Jacob Moumojian, Ali Abdeen & Gulf Investment House, to realise the ambition of merging electrifying game entertainment with socialising with friends and family in the one venue. Venue 56 unites crazy golf, tenpin bowling and arcade games under the one roof for one sensory explosion of fun.
In a region where alcohol is not permitted, the potential for this new concept is especially huge as the ‘activity’ aspect takes on even more importance. Driven by a desire for fun and that all important adrenaline rush of competing, the design for this vibrant, state of the art venue was crucial to provide a gateway into another world previously unseen in the Gulf states before.
Taking inspiration from Hollywood movies, pop art and old school arcade games, Shed designed the overall brand identity and interiors that make Venue 56 Golf truly iconic and a stable on the burgeoning Kuwaiti hospitality scene. A fun house of vibrant stimulation, discovery and unique golf putting challenges within each of the individually designed golf landscapes.
This 9-hole course is a mastery in crazy golf design filled with pop culture puns and eclectic regional references that entertain and surprise punters in equal measure. From the ‘Punk Pin-Ball’ machine hole where one shot of luck can get you a bonus or a bogey, to the oil barrels of the desert that make a nod to the region’s industry, each bespoke hole induces feelings of nostalgia or plays with illusion to deliver the craziest of crazy sensations as a result. The players journey through the course taking them on a visual journey combined with physical enjoyment, something never experienced before.
The concept has been designed to roll out across more venues in the region in the near future and position Venue 56 as the home for competitive socialising in the region.
Dave Dalziel, lead designer and partner at Shed says, “V56 is the first of a kind crazy golf in Kuwait City. Whilst there are a couple of the archetypal green astroturf and basic obstacle crazy golf courses that exist, there is simply nothing like this in the region. We’re bringing competitive socialising to the GCC and believe we’re positioned perfectly to do so. We’ve designed a multitude of these specialist hospitality venues in the past, from crazy golf to ping pong, and established the clients and brands as leaders in their field. It’s rewarding watching them go from strength to strength off the back of original, unique design and as a result they challenge the status quo. We’re expecting Venue 56 to do exactly the same and are excited to be a part of their journey.”
Jacob Moumdjian, Co-Founder of Venue 56, says, “Having been educated in the UK and seeing the success of the competitive socialising scene over there, my partners and I knew Kuwait City would be the perfect location to start this trend in the GCC. Shed are the leaders in this field and the right team to realise the potential of this new concept and deliver visionary design that will set us in good stead to expand the business in the future. That’s exactly what they gave us and more, and we hope to build on this business relationship moving forward.”
