Stasis and Spectacle: Redefining the Retail Gaze at Voyeur Voyeur by CRAB Studio

A retail space defined by a "frozen" landscape of white geometric volumes and one-way mirrors that explore the boundary between public display and private observation.

Located in Shoreditch London, the new Voyeur Voyeur flagship store by CRAB Studio reimagines the retail environment as a gallery-like cavern. The design centres on an abstract landscape of bold, geometric masses that appear to tumble through the space, sliced through by an eyeline horizon mirror. By balancing a monochromatic palette with strategic sightlines, the project transforms the act of shopping into a choreographed performance of voyeurism and reflection.About the brand

Voyeur Voyeur is a multi-label luxury fashion and lifestyle store located in Shoreditch, London. Showcasing a carefully articulated mix of emerging and established brands alike. Project Concept

The design for Voyeur Voyeur was driven by a brief to create a bold, energetic interior that functions as a unique gallery space for the brand’s clothing and accessories, able to visually operate both online and offline. The studio responded with a formal language of "White Chunks" restrained, geometric volumes that unify the shop’s mass while providing a neutral, sculptural backdrop for merchandise.

Conceptually, these volumes are treated as if they were caught in motion and then frozen. Their past connections and trajectories unfold as a series of glimpses and views throughout the interior, creating a sense of energy within a minimalist, white-on-white palette. The edge of the space becomes obscured and glimpses to spaces beyond extend the otherwise small space.

The project moves beyond simple retail display to explore the cultural theme of the "gaze." Through the use of one-way mirrors and fragmented reflections, the store becomes a site where the customer is simultaneously the observer and the observed, echoing the brand’s name through physical space. A mirrored horizon cuts through the store at eye level, establishing a consistent datum that orients the body within the space while reflecting the voyeur back onto themselves.

Spatial Organisation

The shop’s street presence is defined by full-height glazing, exposing the entire interior "cavern" to the street and immediately engaging the passer by. Upon entry, customers navigate a sequence of cascading diagonals and geometric masses that dictate the flow of movement. The energy and language of the chunks is extended through mirrored cracks in the fabric of the store, creating infinite compositions of spaces and bodies. These mirrors are sometimes designed to extend the space, and at other times to remind, distort, and reform the bodies in the store. Whilst constantly reconfiguring itself, the ‘Cavern’ obscures and extends the space of shop beyond its physical limits. A hanging display rail draws a soft trajectory through the space — this precise, crafted element traces a hidden geometry, subtly reverberating with the surrounding surfaces, haptically guiding the voyeur.

At eye level, a mirrored horizon cuts through the entire store, establishing a consistent datum that orients the body while reflecting the visitor back onto themselves. The circulation leads toward the rear, where a "VIP" nook is tucked into the geometric fabric of the store, within the private space of the nook, the cascading mirrors extend the space to the infinite. Central to the spatial experience is a mirrored box—the changing room—strategically placed to interrupt the composition and act as a focal point for the store’s voyeuristic theme.

Material and Detail Strategy

The material palette is strictly curated to emphasize form and light. White surfaces with subtle texture provide a gallery-like atmosphere, while "mirrored horizon" in the store’s fabric create infinite compositions of space and body.

A precise, custom-crafted hanging rail traces a hidden geometry through the shop, acting as a linear trajectory that reverberates against the surrounding angled surfaces. In contrast to the cool white exterior, the VIP and staff areas are wrapped in a deep red technical fabric, providing a high-intensity tactile shift that marks the transition from public floor to private service. This fabric also forms the staff uniforms, visually linking the team to the brand and the environment.

Quote from the Designer

“We wanted the shop to feel like a moment of high energy caught in stasis,” says Gavin Robotham. “By using the white volumes to frame the products and the mirrors to distort the perspective, the architecture forces a dialogue between the shopper and the space. You aren't just looking at clothes; you are part of the display.”

Closing Paragraph

By combining theatrical, cascading geometries with a rigorous monochromatic palette, the Voyeur Voyeur flagship transcends traditional retail. It successfully merges the intimacy of a dressing room with the scale of a public gallery, turning every visit into a curated visual encounter.
