Is it a restaurant, a club, an open air cinema or all of these in one? The intention of Jakob + MacFarlane is to create a project which links all of these programmatic elements together forming an intervention called “Wanderlust”. This new project is located inside another earlier project “The Docks - City of Fashion and design”, designed by Jakob + MacFarlane.
Wanderlust is spread over an outdoors and indoors surface area of 2000m ² with direct views onto the Seine river below and surrounding buildings. Over this surface, our intention was to imagine it as one large platform over which were created a series of micro spaces, atmospheres linked together to form a visual continuityor discontinuity where needed.
The outside space of the terrace seats up to 400 people for lunch and dinner, 100 people for the outside cinema, 200 people for the inside club and 150 people for the seated restaurant. Three green steel structures are designed to be placed among these areas of activity.We imagined these as micro-architectures placed on this platform surface with others to follow in the future.
The first, a Bar and DJ projection Pavilion offering a diverse programing; bar and toilets on the ground floor, Dj and Cinema on the second.The second architecture is the Cinema screen structure designed for 2D and 3D projection; it hangs crab-like of the neighboring building. The third structure is an interior Clothing and reception booth.
The interior spaces, Restaurant and Club are imagined as part of the outside terrace space that continues inside. The wood terrace continues inside with another two bars designed like the outside one.
All furniture, both inside and outside is designed by Jakob + MacFarlane and imagined in the same wood and steel vocabulary as the bars,ie vernacular provisoire.
The architectural concept Wanderlust aims to materialize a sense of provisoire, experimental programing and urban eclectic in the heart of the city to create a sense of discovery, detente and humor.
