Moving the ski-hill to Wuhan

Announcing itself as the destination in the city, the half-kilometer-long and 100m high indoor ski slope is the jewel in this leisure and entertainment destination. Located in Wuhan, SUNAC serves this forward-looking city that is one the most populous in central China and boasts the largest population of university students in the world.

A Winter Sports Masterplan

One half of the greater master plan, the introduction of the ski hill is by its nature a new landmark in the city. A complex project that combines ski, theme park, and retail appealing to the entertainment desires of Wuhan’s modern urban dwellers.

The transition of scale from this newly built topography introduced to the local environment is handled seamlessly. The large sports architecture connects through a series of composed spaces to the traditional-style city streets in the neighboring half of the master plan.

Ski Slope in the City

Shifting existing norms of leisure and tourism, a vision of a mountain is brought to the city, offering the adventure of winter sports 365 days a year. Instantly making indoor skiing available to millions of people challenged by accessibility to domestic travel.

Exploring beyond the 90,000 square meters indoor ski center, an array of entertainment and leisure activities form a rich experience. Catering for snow sports and water sports at the bustling lakeside, and everything in between.

A “3D Carnival” Theme Park

Curated as a stage for 24-hour entertainment, the foothills of the skill slope are terraces for nightlife revelers. Injecting the energy, carnival rides, and attractions are scattered across rooftops and trickle down to the waterside theme park through plazas and commercial streets bound by interactive facades.

A Built Vision

Under construction as of 2021, the energetic sports architecture landscape is emerging as a built reality. A lively landscape that traverses across rooftops and diagonal surfaces packed with activity. Soon to be brought to life by the theatre of the youthful entertainment seekers and residents of Wuhan alike.
