Nestled in lush settings with expansive views of the surrounding landscape, Casa D.V. is a private house located in the countryside of Columbia, designed by Velez Valencia Arquitectos. The house is an outcome of the pandemic-led migration of people back to the sparsely populated areas set in natural settings with the desire for a better quality of life.
The residence is defined by its minimalistic design derived from the client's affinity towards the planning and aesthetic of the minimalist movement. Simplicity and purity became the pillars of the house.
The site topography resulted in the formation of a large cantilever allowing the diverse functions to be housed at a suitable level while soaking in the beautiful views.
A set of rectangular volumes of varying heights dictate the spatial composition. The material palette comprises majorly of concrete, celebrating uniformity and repose.
Sustainability features introduced in the design include solar panels, collection, passive strategies for cross ventilation, and storage of rainwater used for toilets and landscaping. Large open doors in the central area functioning as a shed, allows breeze and lightness, minimising the cooling load.
Therefore, the design beautifully reflects the values of minimalism and celebrates the idea of open living.
