Taking off with efficient geothermal heat

With more than 150 JANSEN geotwin geothermal probes, 5000 m2 of photovoltaics, rainwater recovery and the targeted use of natural lighting, the east wing of Geneva Airport generates more energy than it consumes. The work of British architect Richard Rogers plays a pioneering role in every respect. The use of geothermal heat to cover the requirement for heat and cold is a key aspect of the concept. French group Ingérop was entrusted with this complex task via its Geneva-based engineering office GEOS, part of the RBI-T group. With a project duration of almost ten years, the whole workload was divided into four phases. The drilling work and installation of the JANSEN geotwin geothermal probes at a depth of almost 300 metres was handled by experienced company Forages SA.
