The proposal is developed on a plot located in the centre of the village of Sesimbra and is bordered to the north by a residential block and the Social Security office, to the east by Rua da Cruz, to the south by terraced houses and Largo Eusébio Leão, and to the west by Rua Amélia Frade.

The aim of this proposal is to consolidate the urban fabric at a fractured point in the village by constructing a mixed-use building that will complete the surrounding area, resolving the various problems that this plot of land causes in the current model of urban consolidation.

The plot, due to its topographical characteristics and its insertion in the urban environment, enhances and justifies the construction of architecture that is detached from the banal character that the surroundings have acquired over time. In the proposal for the site, the new architecture will be more closely related to the terrain by breaking down the height into planes that follow the sinuosity and slope of the natural terrain, taking advantage of the visual relationships that are decisive for the quality of life of future residents, in which the term ‘Altavista’ refers precisely to the confrontation of landscapes that most distinguishes Sesimbra from other villages south of the Tagus: The sea and the mountains; the castle and the town; tradition and modernity; the slope and the flatness and, finally, the light and the shadow.

In Sesimbra, the absence of a ‘Rossio’ means that the city always faces the sea, further congesting the narrow streets that run along the coastline.
