Renovation and extension of an existing sports centre in Gentofte.
Based on the existing building, the extension gently seizes the original building style and creates a new aesthetic for the area. The vision was to create a bright and open environment with a visual contact towards the outdoor activities and viceversa inviting the users of the sport facilities to enter. This concept results in the open gable facade that provides a view and a more fluid boundary between inside and outside. The building thus acts as a living and open focal point for sports and movement. During the process, there has been a great focus on user involvement, which is reflected in the building's programming and use. Since the building must accommodate a particularly active environment, it was important to ensure some strength and at the same time feed a sensitive processing of the interior spaces: this is particularly reflected in the study of the details. There has also been close dialogue with the client, thereby ensuring the good process and the project's execution.
A focus on the existing qualities was essential for establishing a dialog between the extension and the renovation of the existing conservation-worthy building. Through studies of materiality and design, the work has been carried out on the continuation of the existing form and use of finding materiality. The facade thus appears with large glass sections and aluminum plates in dark hues. The simple grip promotes the qualities of the conservation-worthy building and the extension is thus integrated into the existing context.
