Designed by Fernanda Marques, Carbono transforms a 480 m² apartment on the eighth floor of a building in São Paulo’s prestigious Ibirapuera neighborhood into a true urban oasis, with sweeping views of the iconic park. The residence was created for a couple with three children seeking the spaciousness and comfort of a house, combined with the practicality of apartment living.
Right at the entrance, the social area impresses with its sense of openness and lightness—qualities enhanced by a ceiling clad in oak wood. This key architectural feature connects the spaces and sets a warm, sophisticated tone throughout. Uncommon in urban apartments, the wood ceiling acts as a visual thread linking the living room, home theater, dining area, small wine tasting lounge, and a gourmet zone with barbecue—fitted with an electric sliding door for convenient opening and closing.
"From the start, my clients made it clear that they wanted an apartment that felt like a house, with treetop views and generous space to entertain friends," says Fernanda.
To meet their needs, the architect divided the floor plan into two main zones: a spacious, multifunctional social wing, and a private family area with four en-suite bedrooms and an intimate lounge that also serves as a home office.
The design features a predominantly light and neutral color palette, enriched with varied textures and subtle bursts of color—like the anthracite-toned Terminal chaise and wine-colored Papilio armchair, both by B&B Italia. The Mondrian sofas from Italian brand Poliform, upholstered in a sand-gray fabric blend, anchor the living and home theater areas. A bold blue canvas by artist Ana Jobim stands out on the central wall, while a sculptural pendant by Cypriot designer Michael Anastassiades brings an artistic touch to the dining room.
The transition between social and private spaces is also marked by a shift in materials: the travertine wood flooring in the common areas gives way to oak floors in the bedrooms, adding warmth and intimacy. According to Fernanda, this deliberate inversion reinforces the sense of coziness and privacy in the family quarters.
