In the heart of Turin, just steps from Piazza Bodoni, the combination of two adjoining units within a historic building gives rise to a 130 sqm apartment designed for a young family.

The project began with a complete reorganisation of the interior layout, aimed at recovering the original spatial qualities and enhancing the natural light, which had been compromised by successive alterations over time.

At the heart of the intervention is the living area, created by joining two rooms and revealing a large late-19th-century frescoed vault. The fresco was carefully restored, preserving its palette of powder blue, ochre and grey-green tones, which became the starting point for the overall colour scheme of the apartment.

The living space unfolds between the kitchen, featuring a peninsula from Modulnova’s Skill collection, and the sitting area, furnished with a corner sofa by DiTre Italia and Lema’s Selecta shelving system. Nanimarquina’s Flora Bloom rug further contributes to defining the atmosphere of the space.

The new layout organises the apartment into two distinct wings: the living area and children’s bedroom on one side, and the master bedroom, study and bathrooms on the other. Within the existing vaulted volumes, lowered elements accommodate technical and service functions, including bathrooms and walk-in wardrobes, creating a dialogue between solid and void, original and newly introduced elements.

A distinctive role is played by Jannelli & Volpi’s Tierra botanical wallpaper, used to clad the volume within the master bedroom and reinforce the continuity of the project’s colour palette.

The flooring was entirely renewed with walnut parquet laid in a Hungarian herringbone pattern, with the exception of the children’s bedroom, where the original flooring was carefully recovered and relaid. In the bathrooms, Ston mosaic tiles and Ceramica Cielo sanitaryware define contemporary spaces, while subtle colour references maintain a visual connection with the rest of the apartment.

The lighting scheme combines design classics with contemporary solutions, including pieces by Flos, Louis Poulsen, Artemide, Foscarini and Vibia, carefully selected to enhance the architectural volumes and surfaces.

The result is an interior design project that brings together historical memory and contemporary living. The restoration of the existing architecture is balanced by an essential and carefully calibrated language, allowing original elements and new interventions to coexist within a coherent spatial and chromatic identity.
