Child care center Hauderweg

The Hauderweg child care facility is located near the center of Ebelsberg (southern district of Linz) and is embedded in a quality garden with beautiful old trees. It is well connected to the public transport network by tram. Access to the day care center and kindergarten is along the calm street Hauderweg. It is an ideal location for a childcare facility (also due to its proximity to the school).

The existing building from the 1980s had to be renovated. Two outdated additions were removed to make room for a quality new building of the day care center, that has to be the space for 9 groups. This two- storey, compact, L-shaped building was positioned in the construction window in such a way, that it maximize the free space for the children. The formally dominant roof structure of the existing building is taken up, reinterpreted and playfully continued.

There should be a clear functional separation between kindergarten (mainly located in the old part) and day care (which is in the new extension), without neglecting the formal language of the existing building. The new building is largely made of wood, heights of eaves and ridge adapt to the existing building. The internal organization of the room program enables good orientation through central common areas on each foor. An internal connection between the day care and the kindergarten enables synergies between the two facilities and saves space thanks to the dual use of the kitchen, the multi-purpose room and the play areas.

The color concept in earthy red-brown is derived from the roof construction of the existing building and is applied to both new and old buildings. The solid wood walls and ceilings visible inside, combined with linoleum and polished screed foors, create a harmonious and calm atmosphere for the children and the care team. The careful coordination of the materials and colors is harmonious and unobtrusive and creates safe space for children.

Technical Info:
The heating system uses the existing connection to the local district heating network. The heat is emitted via a low-temperature system in the foor (underfoor heating). The hot water is generated decentrally in the respective sanitary rooms or group rooms. The ventilation system in the new building is equipped with heat recovery. It ventilates and ventilates all group rooms, as well as ofces and staf rooms.
