Situated in the city center of Tours, the dental laboratory undergoing transformation is a space with diverse and fragmented features. It encompasses multiple buildings constructed during different periods, resulting in a variety of architectural characteristics. Leveraging this diversity, the conversion into offices aims to provide a range of working environments.

The evolution of office spaces is a continuous cycle where familiar typologies recur: open spaces in the 1940s, cubicles in 1965, and private offices in the 2000s. While open spaces have been predominant in recent years, they are now adapting with partitioning systems reminiscent of 1970s cubicles. Rejecting the notion that one model is superior, the envisioned offices integrate all options, offering a diverse range of environments suited to various needs and moods of the code-troopers.

The project's goal of expanding the variety of working methods finds a special resonance within the segmented space of the former dental laboratory. Five distinct areas, accommodating various components of the program, are envisioned and organized around a central patio.

Nevertheless, the fragmentation of the spaces is confined to their respective functions: their arrangement follows a logic of consistency represented by a wooden veneer wall that traverses all the offices, along with a library made from the same material. Additionally, all existing window sills are removed and replaced with French doors, enhancing both solar exposure and thermal insulation within the space.

The laboratory serves as the focal point of the new arrangement. It is oriented towards formal working methods and provides two adaptable meeting rooms for small group collaboration, along with an open space. Emphasizing flexibility and fostering vibrant exchanges among the code-troopers, the design features a single elongated island.

Code, the café for code-troopers, provides informal working environments such as high tables, lounges, and foosball. It serves as both a workspace and a relaxation area. Located at the entrance, this bustling space also acts as a welcoming area.

The project includes individual workspaces as well. These areas, designed for making phone calls without disrupting others, are generously sized and serve as individual offices for occasional use. Furthermore, the archives are arranged in a space that facilitates private work in small groups.
