Contemporary Villa – BNLA architects

In a green and spacious residential neighborhood in The Netherlands, BNLA architecten designed a contemporary villa that brings together daylight, comfort, and refined living. The project replaces outdated housing with a future-oriented home that meets modern standards of comfort and sustainability.

The design is driven by a clear ambition: to create a calm and elegant living environment that enhances daily life through balance rather than excess. This balance is expressed in the architecture, where openness and privacy, solidity and transparency, are carefully composed using a mix of warm materials and crisp white plasterwork.

The villa is composed of horizontally oriented volumes with varied materialization, including brickwork, weathered wooden slats, white stucco, and generous glazing. Toward the street, the building presents a more closed and composed façade, offering privacy and a sense of tranquility while fitting naturally into the scale of the surrounding neighborhood. In contrast, the garden façade opens up fully, with large windows and wide sightlines that connect the interior spaces to the surrounding greenery. Steel canopies emphasize the horizontal character and provide a refined, luxurious expression.

Inside, the villa unfolds as a bright and welcoming living environment designed around the daily rhythm of its inhabitants. The spacious kitchen and living areas flow seamlessly into one another, with daylight playing a central role throughout the home. A sunken seating area with fireplace creates an intimate atmosphere without compromising the sense of openness, while continuous views of the garden strengthen the connection between indoors and outdoors.

A generous basement adds a versatile additional living layer, accommodating functions such as a gym, home cinema, and storage spaces. Designed as an integral part of the home, it enhances functionality without increasing the villa’s presence above ground.

The villa is fully gas-free and equipped with a ground-source heat pump and smart home technology, resulting in a comfortable, energy-efficient residence that offers a balanced and timeless living experience.
