Groupe scolaire Léo Lagrange

Extension and rehabilitation of L. Lagrange school

ER Architectes as Architects

The city of Bondy owns several school built at the same area. They show the same common identity : simple volume, red brick, white frame, reflecting the functionalism architecture of the post-second world war era.

The operation concern rehabilitation and extension of the school (primary and nursery complex). We choose to preserve the façade on the street, to keep the school identity and add three new volume into the existing complex.

The new building or part are constructed in wood frame and covered with white perforated steel to lighten the image and contrast with the red and existing. A large porch roof connect and unify all the part.

The steel frame covers the white rain-proof and partially some windows to become a brise soleil and create a poetic atmosphere of light and shadow.

Finally, a colored frame dress the window to introduce the individuality of the class (one class, one color)

The new identity of the school is based on the balance between architectural history and contemporary dynamism.
