The plot size is about 50,000 sq.ft. in the heart of the city. The client being an active social person came to us with only one major requirement that he needed a home which could help him in switching between his social and family life and enjoy his home in a way that would transmute it to a resort like environment.
For a family strength of 5, he desired to have 3 Bedrooms along with 2 Guest Bedrooms, Formal and Informal Living and certain recreational amenities like swimming pool, gym and party lawn.
He desired to have all of his requirements in around 10,000 sq.ft. of area.

As soon as we understood the client's social life and reviewed the plot size we were clear that the spatial organisation of this bungalow would be something different to what one expects. We decided that every space of this home would have an accompanying private garden attached to it such that no matter where you are in the bungalow you are constantly surrounded by landscape. The planning of spaces is such that from all the major corridors of the house one could see a patch of greenery at the end of the sightline.

We believe that this deliberate measure affects the subconscious of the inhabitants in a way that would induce peace, calm and serenity to their life.

Also considering that there is minimum privacy in the client's lifestyle and the dense built fabric surrounding the plot, we decided to enclose the bungalow on the sides via local stone walls on the East and West Side which would also block the harsh low angle sun penetration into the home. Being located in a dry and hot region, we decided that the swimming pool would be in the heart of the house not only to act as a centre of recreation but also to induce evaporative cooling in the house.

The North and South side of the home have jaali in Mild steel and deep overhangs to cut the high angle sun from the south yet have enough perforated visibility to the outside. The planning of the habitable and landscape spaces is such that the winds from the West direction are unobstructed and have clear cross ventilation across the home.

Overall attempt has been made to provide the users with an experience such that while manoeuvring across the home, the inhabitants constantly feel surrounded by landscape and it becomes indistinguishable as to whether it’s a garden or a home.
