Discover the products, materials and all that is behind the project of remodeling impressive La Continental Shop
Located in the Historic Center of Mexico City, at Jose Maria Pino Suarez Avenue is furskins Continental, distinguished by selling hardware like rings, jewelry, buttons and snaps from 1940. It is a store of tradition that, for its 66 years of operation has the same service to more than three generations, so it is quite a store known for its variety of products. Its design had been for over 76 years somewhat sober, informal and old, consisting of a ceramic floor in white, a wooden, aluminum furniture and unfinished walls. At first glance, safety vests were distinguished in bright colors and aluminum accessories, such as keys and plates on the walls, so you could see a glut of products on all the walls. With so many years of existence, the fur urgently needed an overhaul. And this project was developed by the design office MVN, directed by Oscar Monsalve and his design team Juliana Alvarez and Andrea Benitez, along with the engineer Vicente Cruz for civil works. The idea was that the remodeling was to get a renovated room and that the image of the store was far from the preset associated with simplicity and common furriers. The desire of the owner of the shop was that through the design could meet two main objectives: the first was that visually could recover the elegance of traditional historic center of Mexico City, through the use of classic colors but modern and design of modular structures that were more in line with the measures of the products offered in the store. The second objective was that through the furniture was made easier handling products from 15 vendors counter, which in turn involve an improvement in customer relationship salesman. The main challenge of the renovation was the optimization and good use of space for display, it is one of the most important points of the store. For the remodeling of furriers "The Continental", the designer Oscar Monsalve, made use of materials: MASISA Melamine, Walnut Neo 19mm boxes in general perimeter walls and furniture bodies; MASISA Melamina Black 19mm body counter and internal modules .; and MASISA Melamina Black 16 MM, for the production of anguetes Chargers and internal structures. MASISA material was used for its versatility and finished product. For the designer MASISA was the perfect material fit the modern-ancient concept they were seeking.
"MASISA offers a wide range of materials where we always find the color and texture suitable for our design concepts, plus combined with other materials such as quartz and glass, gave a touch of elegance to the old design we required, "said the designer Oscar Monsalve. Time spent on remodeling was 1 month and a half, and all the remodeling process was carried out with the always open and running store, following customer requirements for least possible impact on its sales and overall performance. Surely one of the most beautiful and emblematic tradition shops Historic Center of Mexico City!
