Marquês de Tomar House

Atelier 106 as Architects

The project is an apartmente located in Avenidas Novas, Lisboa, which was completely uninhabitable. The original apartment had a characteristic structure of the time and the end goal of this transformation was to create modern spaces for a young couple.

Finding balance between original areas and new fluid, wide and communicating spaces was the biggest challenge. Thus the existing living rooms were turn into an open space.

The original storeroom and maid’s bathroom now are being part of the kitchen that has a totaly new design. The existing maid´s room was tranbsformed into a bathroom and two rooms were turn into one (suite and closet).

This apartment is a perfect combination between past and future. The old restored doors, solid wood plank flooring, high boards and a suspended new fireplace co-exist in harmony.
