Located in a historic 1908 building in San Francisco’s Chinatown, Pantheon’s office was designed to provide a dynamic environment to accommodate its growing workforce. The two floors include 98 workstations, 9 conference rooms, lounge and dining areas, phone booths, a library and a cafe.
Movement between the two levels is encouraged by having a combination of workstations, communal areas and quiet spaces distributed throughout the office. The large dining area provides a spacious gathering hub where different teams can socialize and interact. A custom sliding partition system incorporating marker boards and polycarbonate panels is one of the key design features and allows for separation between workstations, a library, and a central lounge. In an open office where wall space is limited, the magnetic marker boards provide much needed meeting and brainstorming surfaces. The translucent polycarbonate panels are a lightweight and cost effective solution that allow light to flow through the office when closed. The result is a flexible solution creating quieter workstation and library space for focused work when the central lounge and dining area are buzzing with activity.
Additional private areas include two meeting pods tucked into an underutilized corner that used to serve as bike storage. The striped carpet tiles create a delineation of space while adding a strikingly graphic and colorful element. Two phone booths on the upper level are another custom feature built using plywood, reclaimed doors, moss panels and acoustic foam.
Finally, the “cafe” on the upper level is where Pantheors satisfy their coffee and snack cravings. The space multitasks for individual work or small meetings and features custom wood benching, a record player and large windows overlooking a plant-filled courtyard.
