PastaClub-D1 | Architectural Concept — The Making of a Dish

When we first encountered the existing space and received the brief from the client, we began to draw a parallel between cooking and spatial design: “A restaurant does not simply serve food on the table. The space itself is part of the dish.”

Therefore, when we started designing, we did not begin by thinking about where to place the tables or which colors to choose. Instead, we thought about how a dish is created.

Before considering seasoning or presentation, a chef needs a precise understanding of ingredients and technique. In the same way, we chose to retain the exposed steel structure, visible bracing, and ceiling framework, allowing them to appear honestly while also addressing the existing differences in floor levels.

We wanted people to experience the authenticity of the space, much like looking into an open kitchen where the process of creating a dish unfolds directly before their eyes.

The exposed steel structure creates a sense of modernity and authenticity, while natural wood elements, paired with large glazed façades that open the view toward the greenery outside, allow natural light and layers of green to enter the space like fresh ingredients added to a dish.

These elements soften the rigidity of the architecture, much like adding herbs to a meal: they do not take the leading role, but are subtle enough to transform the entire experience.

We use red throughout the space as a distinctive visual seasoning, while also treating it as the “temperature” of the interior.

During the day, red appears subtly through small accents on dining tables and accessories. As night falls, the red lighting gradually becomes more prominent, much like the flame of a kitchen being turned up — shifting the atmosphere from relaxed to energetic, vibrant, and emotionally charged.

We believe we have created a “delicious dish” — a space where materials, light, and emotion are carefully blended together to offer diners an engaging and memorable experience.
