This is a six-story standalone building located in Taichung. The owner comes from one of the few modern families with 3 generations living under one roof. With the original layout, the spaces were closed off from each other, and the functionality of the space was poorly organized. We broke down the barriers created by the original layout, providing a space that allows the family to reconnect with ease.
(1) Harmonized Cascade
In the six-story building, in order to maintain the integrity of the overall space, we used simple materials. Changes in texture and color were applied to provide a calm and dynamic atmosphere in various spaces.
(2) Crossing the Borders of Space and Time
Taking advantage of the high ceiling on the first floor, we designed and planned the kitchen on the mezzanine floor between the first and second floors. The upper and lower spaces are connected through the transparent glass bricks, allowing the family members in the kitchen and on the first floor to interact with ease.
Considering the large number of family members, an entertainment room was designed on the mezzanine of the second and third floors to help family members maintain their individual lifestyles without distraction. This layout not only connects the various spaces, but also allows three generations to live together without barriers in time and space.
