The Legacy at Willow Bend is a continuing care retirement community (ccrc) conceived, developed and ultimately built to serve the Dallas Jewish Community. Located slightly to the north of the City of Plano, this ccrc of approximately 400,000 sf, provides housing options for seniors that both enhance the vibrant years of one’s life while also providing the best supportive living environments, should they be needed. The design creates a residential community for seniors that is conceived as a “village” of buildings ranging in height from one to four stories. Those individuals living independently have the option of living in a semi-attached one-story villa, or in a 4-story apartment building with one to three-bedroom optional living arrangements and also contiguous to a central “community commons”. The commons provides an extensive array of social and fitness/wellness program spaces. Interconnected to this “commons” is a 3-story assisted living building, providing housing for 40 residents as well as spaces for corporate administrative offices. Adjacent to the assisted living building is a secure building housing an 18-bed memory support unit. Close by on site, a one-story 60-bed skilled nursing facility has been designed as a separate building with its own “commons community”.
