V-M House - Llanquihue - Chile

WINTERI | Architecture & Planning as Architects

Located in the Llanquihue Lake basin, the project is immersed in an extensive slope of green fields and vestiges of an agricultural past. The sheds that are still preserved, give a touch of melancholy that maintains the tradition and history of colonization in the area, and that together with the view of the lake and volcanoes, becomes the main premise of the project.

An essential part of the project was to find a balance between these elements and maintain the morphology of the terrain, perching on a metal structure that transmits the quality of the stage and at the same time focuses on the daily comfort of its inhabitants.

One of its main requirements was to work the house on two levels, the upper level for a program of rooms, rest and meditation, while the first level was for common services and activities. Under this concept, the volume was worked so that the orientations enhanced the view and at the same time managed to capture the greatest amount of natural light.

Corrugated zinc is the predominant material, not only due to its resistance and durability but also because it seeks to camouflage the house within its surroundings. This material, in combination with a Cypress coating, manages to give the appropriate character to the exterior façade. The interior mainly worked with light tones in the native woods of Mañio and Ciprés, which do not compete with the exterior and manage to enhance the landscape, making it the decorative element.
