Villa Meander stands on a narrow, elongated plot measuring less than 16 meters in width. Its undulating form is a direct architectural response to its surroundings, referencing the winding Jeziorka river that flows near the base of the property.
The building's volume and functional layout were meticulously adapted to this atypical site. To achieve optimal building conditions on such a narrow strip of land, a strategic decision was made to position the structure just 1.5 meters from the plot boundary. This move allowed the main entrance to be located in the central part of the ground floor. Consequently, it unlocked a highly logical functional layout and ensured excellent natural light penetration into the primary living areas.
Approaching the house from the front, a section of the first floor hovers gracefully over the walkway leading to the entrance. This entire cantilevered structure is dynamically supported by a distinctive V-shaped column. On the garden side, the architecture softens further, with rounded roof slabs floating above both the ground and first-floor terraces, echoing the gentle curves of the nearby river.
Designed with a modern family of four in mind, the interior is highly practical. The ground floor features a comfortable two-car garage seamlessly integrated with the main living area, which comprises a living room, a dining space, and an open kitchen. The first floor is a dedicated private zone, containing a master bedroom complete with an en-suite bathroom and a walk-in closet, alongside children's rooms and a study. From the master suite, residents can step out onto a spacious, wood-decked terrace to enjoy the surrounding views.
The facade is finished with elegant, ivory-colored clinker brick. The bricks were meticulously laid in a regular pattern of vertical strips. This specific arrangement visually enhances the undulating, meandering nature of the entire building.
Villa Meander was designed in strict accordance with sustainable development principles. The enhanced thermal performance of the building was achieved by utilizing warm aluminum window profiles equipped with triple glazing. Additionally, highly efficient PIR insulation boards with a thermal conductivity coefficient (Lambda) of 0.022 W/(mK) were used, alongside the installation of windows on brackets flush with the facade. The house is equipped with a mechanical ventilation system with heat recovery (recuperation) and is fully prepped for the future installation of roof-mounted photovoltaic panels. Safety glass was installed on both the ground and first floors. Furthermore, the design incorporates rainwater retention tanks, allowing for water collection and its sustainable reuse for garden irrigation.
