Youku Shengshi, a leading gaming company based in Beijing, China, embarked on a transformative journey to create a new headquarters that would not only accommodate its rapid growth but also redefine the modern workplace. The task for us at Space Matrix was to foster a thriving environment that attracted and retained top talent while reflecting Youku's unique artistic vision.
Our design concept sought to break free from the conventional stereotypes associated with gaming offices. Instead of the expected cold, utilitarian spaces, the new headquarters aimed to create a warm, inviting atmosphere that inspired creativity and collaboration. By prioritising employee well-being, comfort, and diversity, the project aimed to elevate the overall employee experience.
Keeping the need for innovative design and Youku's commitment to employee satisfaction, the Space Matrix design team carefully considered the company's unique culture and the needs of its employees, resulting in a workplace design that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing.
A key feature of the project includes the integration of natural light. Workstations were strategically placed near windows to maximise exposure to daylight, promoting a healthier and more productive work environment. The central social area, with its panoramic city views, served as a hub for relaxation and informal gatherings, creating a sense of community among employees.
To accommodate diverse work styles and preferences, Youku's new space offered a variety of workspace options. From private offices to open collaboration areas, employees had the flexibility to choose the environment that best suited their individual needs. Additionally, all workstations were equipped with electric height-adjustable desks, promoting ergonomic comfort and supporting employee health.
The project also incorporated a strong artistic element. Collaborations with renowned local artists brought a touch of sophistication and creativity to the space. The integration of artwork throughout the office not only enhanced the aesthetic appeal but also created a stimulating and inspiring environment.
The Youku's new headquarters, designed by Space Matrix, successfully transformed the traditional gaming office into a vibrant and inspiring workspace. By prioritising employee experience and embracing artistic expression, the company created a new standard for modern office design.
