BIENENSTEIN CONCEPTS was asked to envision the new YVES SALOMON store at the prestigious luxury shopping mall Plaza 66 in Shanghai, China.
While developing this new store concept for the more sportive clothing line that is part of the Yves Salomon brand, a dynamic curved wall line slicing through vertical planes became the core architectural gesture. The void that develops behind the bend allows for additional space for a fitting room, concealed cash desk area or back-of-house functions, depending on the actual available layout.
Modern simplicity was key for the interior architects with the aim to create an open, airy backdrop for the diverse clothing collection. Rough, textured surfaces were superposed with more sophisticated and softly colored materials.
For this location, the designers introduced a first focal point at the boutique’s shop window with a made-to-measure curved LED video screen that prolongs a line of concrete columns acting as a transition from the outside into the store interior. Custom pendant lights and mannequins by Bonaveri highlight distinctive collections pieces and draw further attention to the shopfront.
The main wall, clad in ribbed, light grey concrete panels and punctuated by generous product niches lined with softly veined Brazilian granite, forms a curve towards the rear to draw into an accessories display made of razor-sharp steel shelves and conceal a fitting room and its ante room.
Vertical surfaces are otherwise finished with textured artisan plaster, while the fitting rooms are dressed in specially tinted, fluted glass and fitted out with padded stools by the designers.
Made-to-measure furniture and fixtures punctuate the mainly open space. Sleek pole racks, stretched between floor and ceiling, display the collection, while the geometric volumes of the tables made of plated steel in complementary shades highlight the soft and tactile accessories. Benches with a base of artisan bricks and seat cushion upholstered in wool bouclé from Kvadrat by Raf Simons provide seating throughout the store.
