A living wall biofilter is an active technology not a simple plant wall. Unlike static, green walls, a biofilter actively draws polluted indoor air through the root system, cleans this air by 'consuming' pollutants, and returns the clean air to a building. Not only can a living wall biofilter significantly improve indoor air quality, it also reduces a building's energy consumption by providing fresh air for a fraction of the cost of traditional HVAC methods.
Living wall biofilters are soil-free, hydroponic plant walls which can be virtually any shape or size, and can be integrated into a building's HVAC air handling or can operate (with built-in fans) independently within a room, atrium, or level of a building.
