Finish Detail - Unoiled
Yakisugi heat treatment makes a finish coating unnecessary. Unoiled siding can always be oiled in the future to add color or protection. Delivered ready to install.
Suyaki® is the most traditional and dramatic of our yakisugi “shou sugi ban” products. Its thick, hydrophobic, UV-inhibiting soot layer ensures fantastic color and wood longevity for exterior installations. Unoiled Suyaki has an E84 class A fire resistance. Our finish-coated Suyaki products for interior applications look similar to our exterior-installed Suyaki products, but with unique tactile characteristics.
Suyaki yakisugi naturally features an extremely delicate soot surface that easily blemishes. Bundles and planks must be handled and installed with care.
Traditional yakisugi siding is made by charring the surface of Japanese cedar to enhance its durability and aesthetic beauty. Originally used to protect homes from fire, decay, and insects, it’s now a defining material in modern architecture.
