Team Heijmans has been commissioned by the municipality of Utrecht to develop and build 144 homes in Leidsche Rijn Centrum
Bellevue is the collective effort of Heijmans Vastgoed, NL Architects, Workshop architecten and Flux Landschapsarchitecten together with LBPs Sight, De Keizer Makelaarsgroep, Soontiëns Stadsnatuur and WAX Architectural Visualizations.
Bellevue will arise on two plots in the masterplan by JCAU for Leidsche Rijn Centrum.
The site, directly abutting the iconic Yellow Bridge, can be considered a stepping stone between the historic city and the new expansion Leidsche Rijn, the final act in the operation to connect the city of Utrecht with its largest suburb.
Bellevue will work as a ‘hinge’ between very diverse conditions that oscillate between the industrial and the pastoral, ranging from large ships on the ARK to flocks of sheep in the Valley.
The project is a composition of three residential typologies that through their stepped character aspire to make the most of these different settings.
The sloping character of the site is ideal for the required stepped housing. In a natural and relaxed way the building settles on the slope, basks in the sun, gazes at the horizon.
Bellevue could be understood as a tribute to Neave Brown, famous for Alexandra Road, the stepped brutalist marvel, but also the author of the so-called Medina in Eindhoven.
The planting strategy for Bellevue has been developed with Martijn van de Loo (Soontiëns Stadsnatuur) who is also responsible for the lush greenery in Medina.
The outdoor space, from semi-enclosed courtyards, to informal Amphitheatre, to supersized terraces and balconies, plays a crucial role in the design and features carefully chosen planting.
