The taste of Spain on the Baltic coast

The task set before us was to design a Spanish cuisine restaurant on one of the main streets of Kołobrzeg, leading toward the sea. The investors wanted the place to attract guests both during the summer season and off-season, thanks to the quality of its food and design. They dreamed of a distinctive venue that would reflect their experiences from living in Spain.

Turning a dream into spanish flavors

The space was initially in a shell-and-core condition. Its front section was elevated, creating differences in floor height that posed both a limitation and a challenge — one that could result in an interesting spatial effect. Additionally, the investor wanted a spacious mezzanine integrated into the interior, which was no small feat. This also required close coordination with the structural and ventilation designers. In the end, all of these challenges were successfully resolved.

Where North meets South

A diverse space was created, divided into intimate zones that guests particularly enjoy. Along the entire storefront, the floor is at street level. After descending three steps, you reach a lower level, separated from the first by a zone of comfortable booths with high backs. The venue is split into two sections by stairs, which are flanked by floor-to-ceiling wine racks, forming a dominant and distinctive feature of the interior. On the ground floor, beneath the mezzanine ceiling, the bar is clad in rusted, specially etched metal created for this project. Its ceiling is covered with mirrors and illuminated by bulbs mounted directly to the structure above.

A Spanish soul in an urban space

The previously described stairs lead to the mezzanine, which, due to its height, wooden cladding, and wall-side booths, has a more intimate character. Limited natural light creates a cozy atmosphere, further enhanced by warm, carefully designed lighting. Throughout Fuego, the walls and floors feature custom-made finishes selected specifically for this project. For example, the wall decorated with bull skulls consists of three types of red tiles in varying shades, arranged according to a scheme and proportions we designed. The combination of these and other elements, faithfully executed from the project drawings, contributes to the venue’s uniqueness and distinctive atmosphere.
