The NH Cancun Airport Hotel is located about three kilometers from the Caribbean Sea, close to the Cancun International Airport and a few meters from the Cancun-Tulum highway, in Quintana Roo, Mexico.
The hotel pretends to maintain the atmospheres and features characteristically of the NH brand, and additionally offer the guest the perception of being in a specific place, with its own character and identity; for this reason it evokes a type of limestone rock, characteristic of the region frequent on the beach and its surroundings, located in anemergingplain from the sea known today as the Yucatan Peninsula.
Schematically, a rectangular prism is proposed with its largest facades facing north and south to consequently offer smallersurfaces towards the less favorable east and west orientations. In this way, the north and south views are maximized, restricting the rest. The facades to the north offer homogeneous natural lighting without direct sun most of the year, while the facades to the south allow a light and shadow spectacle that varies with the sun’s day path.
Regarding the architectural program and its areas, within the guidelines established by the NH Branding Design Guide and the particularities derived from the site and local regulations, the architectural program is organized from a free-standing prism placed above a basement, basically intended for parking lot. Above, in a significantly smaller construction footprint, there are two levels for reception and guest care services, meeting rooms, food and beverages, a pool area, terrace and general services. Above these, 5 levels of 28 rooms each where distributed different types of rooms between suites, doubles, singles and specials. A MechanicalRoom’s were separated from the main body by a service path that feeds the assembly from a relatively independent position. Wooded areas and flowerbeds surrounds the building.
Natural materials such as macedonianstone and porphyry stone predominates on the exterior floors; synthetic wood on the terrace floor and the natural finish of certain structural elements such as ramps and concrete surfaces.
Regarding interior finishes, materials such as macedonian stone and the warmth of wood are repeated. These finishes harmonize with the vinyl coverings, wall hangings and porcelain elements to create awarm tonedenvironment in accordance with the brand's image requirements and at the same time atypical environment of the region.
On facades and structural elements, the natural finish of the concrete is preserved, creating that stony sensation typical of corals, accentuating the criterion of simple and pure forms.
