NIZZA PARADISE

Location: Paradiso, Lugano, Switzerland
Building area: 6750 sqm
Date: 2014 – 2017

Nizza Paradise Residence is the first prize winner of a contest of ideas which focused on the design of a luxury resort in Paradiso. The project concept originated from the study of shape of the terrain. This analysis allowed the translation of natural language into architecture by transforming the slope’s soft lines into constructive ones. The shape is due to the upward development of the land’s contour lines and it consists of a composition of horizontal layers formed by slabs and glass walls. These, opening onto deep terraces, overlook the wood to the west, Guidino Park to the east and Lugano Lake to the south.

A pedestrian path on the ground floor connects three different territorial and landscape entities, which are the park, the lake and the wood.

The main pedestrian routes flow through connections to the park, the wood and the city, directly from and into the new building. This will form a trilogy of spaces: public (integration of Guidino Park), semi-public (open-air sculpture museum) and private (residential). Embedded in the slop is a balcony which frames the landscape. Inside is a Spa for the tenants’ wellbeing, opening onto a pedestrian pathway which provides access to the sculptures, park and forest.
