The site at the edge of a forest provides the verdant setting for the house. The brief for the house is to achieve the ultimate outdoor living with connections to the gardens from all rooms. The U-shape plan is built round a courtyard flanked by a lap pool on one side.

The green landscape permeates all around and through the house. One of the gardens at the side which is at a higher level cascades down through the living room and courtyard, and out onto the garden beyond. This particular garden also ensures that the second-storey rooms enjoy vantage views of the greenery. Stretching the entire length of the site, the pool is similarly enveloped in a green strip planted with an assortment of trees and shrubs. The sculptural green landscaping even extends onto the roof of the patio with green creepers and trailers overhanging onto the sheltered space below. Nature is also found in the backyard where an undisturbed forest provides a splendid backdrop to the rooms that overlook the rear greenery.

Textures and colours are a feature of the house and are expressed in the use of fairface brickwalls, concrete ventilation blocks, solid oak floors and steel roofing which is also used as wall cladding and ceiling. In the courtyard, a richness of natural textures is found in the Yellow Pagoda tree that reaches up to the second level, the palm that leans over the fish pond, and the climber that hangs down from the trellis whilst rustic railway sleepers and cobbled granite line the floor.
