On the Greenwich Peninsula a hectare of 16 buildings is planned to become a new creative hub for London. The first of many planned to open this summer, Ravensbourne University’s new Institute for Creativity & Technology is designed by Barozzi Veiga. The institute is the first project in the UK for Barozzi Veiga.

Known for their monolithic designs Barozzi Veiga shaped the institute like a polished aluminium factory hall punctured asymmetrically with large industrial floor-to-ceiling windows. The building is one of two the architects designed for the district. A darker version of similar design will be located on the other end of the creative community.

“When developing this project, we had the goal of making spaces for creative activities of various kinds, including art, photography, technology, and communication. For this reason, we could not think of a more appropriate tenant than Ravensbourne University, whose courses and activities are deeply characterized by creativity.”
– Alberto Veiga, founder, Barozzi Veiga

The four storey building will house Ravensbourne University’s graduate program, a start-up incubator, a research lab and a workshop. The additional space means the University can add four new master studies.

The interiors designed by East London studio Brinkworth continue the industrial theme with robust materials such as powder-coated steel, birch ply and linoleum. The designers intend the interiors to become a maker-space where creativity can strife.
Two projects each by Selgas Cano Arquitectos , Mole Architects, 6A Architects, Architecture 00, Adam Khan Architects, HNNA, and David Kohn Architects are planned to open over the summer.
