Arco Floor Lamp casts light on the subject of classic design

Created by Italian brothers Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni in 1962, the Arco floor lamp by Flos is characterized by a sturdy marble base, arched metal arm, and adjustable reflector. An instant classic, the lamp has featured in renowned Hollywood films including The Italian Job and Diamonds are Forever and today resides in the permanent collection of Museum of Modern Art New York.

Drawing inspiration from the everyday streetlight, the Castiglioni brothers used commercially available parts to create an object that is not only innovative and functionally appealing but also functional. The famed brothers focused on detail throughout the lamp’s creation, from the bevelled corners of its genuine Carrera marble base - which are designed not to hurt should you brush against them - to the strategic hole that allows for easy lifting of the base.

Standing well over two meters tall, the floor lamp takes on a strong presence in any space, be it private or public while the swivelling telescopic arm allows for flexibility and targeted light directionality. Chic, elegant, iconic, the Arco Floor lamp is an accent in any setting, be it arching over a dining table, sofa, or feature chair.

Since opening its doors in 1971 and opening its first large scale factor in 1971, Flos has been on the leading edge of creativity in the interior lighting industry. Collaborations with star designed such as Achille Castiglioni have further established Flos in the market as a credible market leader.

Achieving much critical acclaim, Flos has won five Compasso d’Oro Industrial Design Awards and has been commissioned to illuminate several great historical sites in Europe including the City of Amsterdam Archives and Venice’s Palazzo Grassi.
