Located along one of the tree-lined streets bordering Parque El Virrey in Bogotá, Alameda Apartment reimagines domestic living through a careful balance of spatial simplicity, natural materials, and environmental responsiveness. Designed by Cabida Arquitectura, the project explores how existing residential spaces can be adapted to contemporary lifestyles while creating a stronger connection between occupants and their surroundings. Rather than relying on decorative interventions or short-lived design trends, the renovation focuses on enduring architectural qualities that improve comfort, functionality, and long-term performance.

Reimagining domestic space

The project begins with a reconsideration of how living spaces are organised and experienced. Instead of rigidly separating functions, the apartment is planned as a sequence of interconnected spaces where movement, views, and natural light shape everyday life. This approach allows individual rooms to serve multiple purposes while maintaining visual continuity throughout the home.

The flexible spatial arrangement extends the usability of the apartment over time, enabling it to respond to changing household needs without requiring significant future alterations. By maximising the value of the existing footprint, the renovation reduces the material and environmental impacts associated with larger residential interventions.

Daylight and sensory comfort

Natural light plays a central role in defining the interior environment. Open sightlines and carefully positioned openings distribute daylight throughout the apartment, reducing dependence on artificial lighting while enhancing visual comfort. The relationship between light, shadow, and material creates subtle variations throughout the day, contributing to a more engaging and comfortable domestic environment.
The apartment's location adjacent to one of Bogotá's major green corridors further strengthens the connection between the interior and the surrounding landscape. Views of mature trees and nearby open spaces reinforce a sense of proximity to nature within a dense urban setting.

Material longevity and environmental quality

The interior employs a restrained palette of natural materials selected for their durability, tactile qualities, and ability to age gracefully. Timber, stone, and other minimally processed finishes create warm, robust surfaces that require relatively little maintenance over their lifespan. Rather than pursuing novelty, the material strategy prioritises permanence and timelessness, reducing the likelihood of premature replacement or refurbishment. This emphasis on durable materials also contributes to indoor environmental quality by creating comfortable, tactile spaces that support everyday living while maintaining a consistent architectural language throughout the apartment.
