Located along one of the tree-lined streets bordering Parque El Virrey in Bogotá, Alameda Apartment by Cabida Arquitectura reorganises an existing residential interior around spatial simplicity, material continuity, and access to natural light. The renovation adapts the apartment to contemporary patterns of living while strengthening connections between its interior spaces and surroundings.
Reorganising domestic space
The project reconsiders how the apartment’s living spaces are organised. Rather than rigidly separating functions, it creates a sequence of interconnected spaces in which movement, views, and natural light establish continuity throughout the home. Individual rooms can accommodate different uses as required.
The flexible spatial arrangement allows rooms to respond to changing household needs without substantially altering the apartment’s overall organisation. By maximising use of the existing footprint, the renovation reduces the material and environmental impacts associated with larger residential interventions.
Daylight and visual connection
Natural light plays a central role in the interior. Clear sightlines and considered openings distribute daylight through the apartment, reducing dependence on artificial illumination, while the relationship between light, shadow, and material changes throughout the day.
The apartment’s location beside Parque El Virrey provides views towards mature trees and surrounding green space, extending the visual connection between the interior and its urban setting.
Materials and finishes
The interior uses a restrained palette of natural materials selected for their durability, tactility, and longevity. Timber, stone, and other minimally processed finishes create warm, robust surfaces that require little maintenance. The material strategy prioritises permanence, reducing the likelihood of premature replacement. This emphasis on durable materials contributes to indoor environmental quality and creates spaces that maintain a consistent architectural language throughout the apartment.
