The focus of the renovation of this apartment located in Brasília’s Plano Piloto was the reconfiguration of the social areas, in order to improve the relationship between the different spaces and equate the transition between them and the kitchen area, so that they can be isolated or integrated according to the different user needs.
For this, we removed all the original walls that previously divided these spaces and identified the original pillars and structural beams of the building, in order to reorganize the rooms creating clear and well-defined axes that enabled a better spatial organization.
We kept apparent these structural elements, recovering and treating the concrete, which joined the wood, glass and white marble in a clear reverence to the materials present in the modernist architecture of Brasília.
We completed the existing wooden floor up to the boundary between the living rooms and the wet areas, where a large panel with a wood finish separates the spaces. This separation is made from different sliding doors, whose combinations between open and closed enable different configurations and uses.
The first door gives access to the new toilet created in the project, which internally is completely covered in a water-green hue, creating a contrast with the external finish in natural wood. The second door, this one on the dividing unit of the dining room, separates it from the eating area inside the kitchen, and when open allows both the visualization of the decorated tile panel in the background and the creation of a serving area. Finally, the three largest sliding doors allow the separation between the living room and the kitchen, completely isolating them when closed, and allowing the entry of natural light and cross ventilation between areas when open.
All the rest of the woodwork was done in glossy white lacquer, leaving the spaces wider and clearer and allowing the original decoration pieces of the residents, collected throughout several trips around the world, to always have a prominent position, giving room to their personality and history to show in the renovation.
