For our clients, AL House represents a refreshing change of scenery. The family, comprising a couple and two children, made the bold decision to trade the bustling life of the capital, Porto Alegre, for the tranquil charm of Canela, a city nestled in the heart of the Serra Gaúcha region.
At first glance, AL House presents itself as a single-story dwelling, boasting a sleek metal roof that shelters vehicles while gracefully extending over the rear porch. Contrasting with the substantial volume of exposed concrete, the roof, along with the airy slats defining the car shelter, adds a touch of modernity to the facade.
Perched upon a sloping terrain of 4.5m, the architectural program unfolded in a manner quite distinctive from the usual projects of the studio. Access to the house is granted through the upper floor, where the private quarters of the residence reside, featuring a foyer and four suites (including guest and children's suites, with the master suite occupying the prime position, offering optimal orientation and breathtaking views).
A journey through the treetops via the internal vertical circulation imbues the path to the communal areas with a sense of intrigue, elongating the journey compared to the conventional route. This clever design not only enhances the aesthetic appeal but also floods the ground floor with natural light and facilitates cross ventilation throughout.
The social hub of the house comprises a spacious kitchen, dining area, and living room seamlessly integrated with a TV room, providing ample space for entertaining guests and hosting family gatherings.
The balcony, seamlessly connected to the interior, is nestled beneath the cantilever of the upper volume, offering a serene vantage point to admire the natural beauty of the surrounding condominium, complete with picturesque views of a tranquil lake—a perfect setting for the family to savor the unhurried pace of life they now cherish.
In terms of materiality, the exterior envelope sets the tone for the interior furnishings. Complementing the irregular Miracema stone cladding and exposed concrete, the natural wood flooring seamlessly extends from the window frames, while the warm tones of leather upholstery harmonize with neutral hues, allowing the verdant surroundings to take center stage, effortlessly blending indoor and outdoor spaces
