A couple with a child decided to settle in Andernos-les-Bains and set their sights on this property. The existing building is just under 60m² habitable, and the land is largely covered with gravel.

The objective is twofold. It is therefore a question of enlarging the living area in order to have sufficient space to accommodate the family and to rethink the outdoor space to bring a more vegetal note and functionality to the garden. A small swimming pool will enhance the outdoor space.

The chosen solution is to raise the building. The existing house being almost square, a simple raising would have had the effect of creating a massive block. To overcome this, a molding of the joinery, partial cladding and a modernized eaves work (slightly Japanese-style) has been designed to soften the block. The rear of the elevation is partial in order to retain the roof clearances of the ground floor. The Basque red was used to slice and bring character to the house and respect the wishes of the owners.

Cladding in gray hues blends harmoniously with the whole. For this project, it was also a question of finding the strong identity of the Arcachonnaise typical of the region while bringing a subtle touch of modernity.
