An apartment in Prague’s Holešovice district, overlooking the river and historic industrial halls, possessed a distinctive atmosphere from the start. The raw concrete ceiling, open floor plan, and panoramic city horizon set the tone for the entire design. Our goal was to enhance these qualities rather than overpower them.
The brief was clear: a modern interior with a subtle industrial touch. Instead of relying on bold gestures, we focused on materials and spatial rhythm. The result is a clean, compact composition – a balance of black veneer, stainless steel, travertine, and perforated sheet metal. Nothing excessive, nothing superfluous.
The dominant feature is the kitchen island – two stainless-steel blocks connected by a lower module with the work and cooking area. A minimalist yet solidly anchored element that combines functionality with understated monumentality.
Perforated sheet metal appears throughout the interior. It serves as a semi-transparent divider between zones, allowing light and air to flow while adding a visual rhythm to the space. Steel tubes discreetly define various parts of the apartment – from the entryway to the wardrobe and study – contributing to the subtle structure of the whole.
The study has a more expressive character: a wall-wide wallpaper, a freestanding desk with perforated metal detailing, and bookshelves that echo the industrial scale of the surrounding city. The wiring remains hidden, but the structure and materials are deliberately revealed.
The bedroom, on the other hand, brings a sense of calm. A concrete ceiling, asymmetrical headboard, dark niche with built-in wardrobes, and a simple ottoman create a balanced environment for rest. The bathroom completes the overall concept – simple, materially unified, and free of unnecessary accents.
The result is an interior that doesn’t demand attention but offers a carefully considered environment with a clear identity. Industrial calm defined by balance, material purity, and attention to detail. The view of the river and urban landscape forms its natural conclusion.
