Rather than a salon that can be seen everywhere, we focused on a space that gives new value to customers who visit nail salons. We hoped that it would be a non-daily space where customers could refresh even only for the amount of time, they sit in the nail salon.

We thought that non-daily space was a space where we could feel nature away from the daily life of city. By allowing customers to experience the uniqueness and unfamiliar of nature, it can provide a new value as a space where they can rouse their daily life.

The space where we were asked to do interior design, about 40 square meters, is surrounded by roads on both sides, and has two entrances to the south and north. Also, three of the four sides are windows, and on the north side, there is a dense green landscape that replaces the school fences.

We organized three programs for a long rectangle space. First of all, we arranged the nail care area in an open space with the best view of the landscape. The pedicure area was arranged in the middle with easy connection of existing drainage pipes and then resting area in the remaining parts.

The spatial concept is “a cave encountered accidentally on the journey of life”, and it tried to capture the uniqueness that can be experienced through rest in the cave.

We thought the most natural space created by nature was a cave. We've tried a few things to create a physical feeling of being surrounded and protected by a cave. First, the curved surface was applied to the table and the wall to take on an organic shape, and the level was made different for each curved surface. Because we hoped that the table, the middle wall, and the highest wall would look like a sculpture in the small but long interior space.

Second, in order to bring out the ‘jagged’ and rough feeling, keystone plaster scrapes were applied to the three-dimensional curved surface to give a variety sense of texture that naturally responds to time changes.

Third, the lively green landscapes were brought inside, but the interior colors were selected as achromatic colors to focus on the field of view. Similar colors but different textures can relieve the boredom of the space.

Lastly, we manufactured a 1,000mm x 800mm signboard made of stainless steel, a reflective material that changes on each occasion depending on the location of passers by outside. The signboard is smaller and simpler than the signboards in the neighborhood, but it turns green due to the surrounding greenery, red at sunset, and white at noon, showing off its presence.

We look forward to Oyoung Nail Salon as a place where customers who receive care and art can take a rest and refresh from their daily lives for a while.
