Qatari Villa in Qatar, Doha

British Furniture Designers & Makers, William Garvey, work with award winning British interior designer, Katharine Pooley, and design and make bespoke furniture for a suburban new build villa in the modern city of Doha, Qatar: www.williamgarvey.co.uk/gallery/villa-in-qatar/

Located within walking distance of the recently built Museum of Islamic Art, which sits on a man-made island, Doha is a multicultural city oozing confidence and style and is considered ‘the shining jewel of Qatar’: just like this inner-city dwelling.

Expressing different cultural identities from around the world, this residential project successfully introduces both traditional British woodcraft and international design values into an urban environment.

In light of this artistically visual design brief, William Garvey had to work with a high degree of accuracy to create quality pieces of furniture for the family that occupy this intercontinental inspired villa. Following an on-site survey in Qatar by William Garvey, conceptual drawings were then created with the collaboration of Katharine Pooley and then approved and made at the Garvey workshop in Devon.

From concept to completion, William Garvey were responsible for project management, surveying, working drawings, CNC, manufacture, polishing, installation, materials and delivery to Doha. The bespoke furniture for this private project includes:

Ground floor Entrance foyer

Double Front Door – located at the main entrance, these inward opening double doors and frames, with two adjoining interior doors were designed and made to tolerate varying temperatures: 50˚c outside, versus 18-20˚c inside. Creating a distinct transition from weathered teak on the outer portion of the door that changes in to ebonised teak on the interior face [polish satin finish]. Each door features inlaid thick bronzed brass strips, with the bottom of each door retained by a solid brass water-bar. Double door total dimensions are (H)3060mm x (W) 1875mm, with each solid teak door frame at (H)165mm x (W)65mm.

Designed with a stepped construction, this ornate washstand has four drawers with ebonised walnut interiors and all inlaid brass work was carried out in-house by William Garvey.
