Officially opened on 4 December 2011, QNCC is one of the most sophisticated convention and exhibition centres built to date.

• QNCC was designed by the renowned Japanese architect Arata Isozaki, who took inspiration from Qatar’s beloved icon, the Sidra tree.

• The spectacular façade resembles two intertwined trees reaching up to support the exterior canopy. The tree is a beacon of learning and comfort in the desert and a haven for poets and scholars who gathered beneath its branches to share knowledge.

• QNCC was conceived with a focus on sustainability. The Centre was successfully built according to U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environment Design (LEED) gold certification standards. The building is designed to operate efficiently with innovations such as water conservation and energy-efficient fixtures.

• QNCC’s first major event was the 20th World Petroleum Congress which took place from 4-8 December 2011. Known as the “Olympian Event of the Oil and Gas Industry”, it was attended by over 5,000 delegates from a global oil and gas audience and outside stakeholders such as governments, other industry sectors, NGOs and international institutions who also join in the dialogue.

• During its first anniversary, the Centre celebrated the occasion in the company of Heads of State and delegations who attended the United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP18/CMP8) which was considered to be one of the world’s largest conferences. The conference drew 16,000 participants from 194 countries.

The event propelled QNCC’s reputation as a global centre and set a new benchmark for the seamless delivery of a technically complex and logistically challenging conference.

• To date, QNCC has received the following distinctions :

 Middle East’s Leading Exhibition & Convention Centre by World Travel Awards 2014  Best Events Venue 2013 by Middle East Event Awards  Middle East’s Leading Exhibition & Convention Centre by World Travel Awards 2012  Best Congress and Convention Centre, Middle East by Business Destinations Travel Awards 2012  Best Convention Centre in Middle East by MICE Report Awards 2012

The prestigious convention centre in Doha's Education City

The prestigious convention centre in Doha's Education City

The convention centre in Doha catches the visitor‘s attention for many reasons. Thanks to its multifunctionality, it provides the perfect conditions for global and regional events ranging from conferences, training seminars, concerts and lectures to fairs and exhibitions.

Organic architectural elements give the building a distinctive identity, both visually and symbolically. Its tree-like steel structure establishes a connection to Qatar‘s native Sidra tree, whose shade was traditionally sought out by scholars for their meetings – an association that perfectly suits the new building in the Education City.

The building‘s distinctive contours are illuminated from the link bridge opposite. BEGA high-power floodlights, bottom shielded for visitors‘ comfort, direct the light precisely onto the façade elements.

The roads around the building are lined with down-lighting pole-top luminaires. They target the entire road with their high illuminance, ensuring comfort and safety.

Pleasant wide-area lighting emphasises the generous proportions of the building‘s main façade. BEGA recessed wall luminaires, top shielded, are available with LED lamps in four different sizes. The extensive glass façade also helps visitors orient themselves easily by giving them a clear view into the building.

The renowned Japanese architect Arata Isozaki designed the Qatar National Convention Centre . With 40,000 m² of exhibition space and facilities for up to 27,000 people, the Qatar National Convention Centre is the largest exhibition center in Middle East.

Located in the Education City of Doha, it is the first of its kind that’s built to gold certification of the US Green Building Council´s Leadership in Energy and Environment Design (LEED).

Modern design with functionality and sustainability

The ceilings and walls inside the Qatar National Convention Centre are clad with 6,000 m² of architectural wire mesh made by Haver & Boecker. To meet the exclusive requirements of the room’s ambience, the designers chose bronze and stainless steel wire mesh. The high-quality aesthetic of the architectural mesh, as well as the excellent long-life properties, non-flammability, easy maintenance and recyclability, made choosing HAVER Architectural Mesh an easy decision for the client.

In addition to the Theatre Hall, the Conference Hall and the Internal Art Wall, pre-finished cassettes of architectural wire mesh by Haver & Boecker were also made for the VVIP room and other meeting rooms.  To get a precise fit, custom made solutions were developed for the corner and ceiling areas.

The single cassette elements consist of aluminum frames on which cable mesh type MULTI-BARRETTE 8123 and solid wire mesh type EGLA-MONO 4391 are glued.  Due to their structure, the wire mesh types combine air permeability and acoustic neutrality with an optically closed and homogeneous overall picture. To improve the sound of the space, acoustic material was used inside the wire mesh cassettes.

So as not to affect the homogeneous appearance of the decorative wire mesh claddings, Haver & Boecker developed a special invisible fastening system whereby the cassette elements remain removable.

Theatre Hall

The walls of the Theatre Hall are clad with bronze wire mesh type MULTI-BARRETTE 8123, which underlines the exclusivity of the ambience due it´s color. The elegance of the wire mesh allows interaction with various light reflections and gives the mesh a unique aesthetic.

The HAVER Architectural Mesh was specifically designed for the acoustic requirements of the theatre. The mesh is coated with clear varnish, canted to the edges and glued into black-coated aluminum frames.

Specific special solutions for the cassette elements were developed for the corner regions of the Theatre Hall. So as not to affect the homogeneous appearance of the wire mesh claddings, a special invisible fastening system was developed by Haver & Boecker whereby the cassette elements remain removable.

Cassettes of bronze wire mesh were also installed in the Conference Hall. To accommodate the multifunctional use of the room, many customized solutions were required for the ceiling and corner cladding.  EGLA-MONO 4391 has a flat surface on one side which creates a very homogenous appearance. The architectural wire mesh was coated with clear varnish and glued to black-coated aluminum frames. Acoustic protection within the ceiling cassettes and wall cladding, achieve noise-reducing effects and improve the acoustics.

Internal Art Wall

The large Internal Art Wall consists of two walls, both of which are covered on one side with stainless steel mesh type MULTI-BARRETTE 8123. The wall claddings consist of canted meshes which are glued onto stainless steel colored aluminum frames. The wire mesh frames with integrated insulation were specially designed by Haver & Boecker for the underlying air conditioning.
