The memory house

The house is situated in a low density area, full of green and what characterizes the site is its steep slope.

Above there is the presence of the provincial road, below it's formed a depression surrounded by tall trees that converge to the lake. The dwelling finds its right place on a strip of flat land and the relationship between nature and construction intensifies.

The building dates back to the beginning of the last century, built with a perimeter supporting structure in moltrasina stone. It is spread over 4 levels, now divided into a cellar, a hobby room, a sleeping area and a living area.

In the cellar and in the hobby room, the rock on which the foundations of the house are laid is clearly visible, enters the precise space and is constructed in a totally natural and uncontrolled way. The seasons and the days change the internal perception: in rainy days the rock takes on a black and humid color, while in the sunny ones it is clear and dry.

Above the hobby room there is the sleeping area which is connected through a staircase inside the living area. The staircase is in exposed concrete and is anchored to the supporting structure becoming an integral part. In this plane the rock is not visible, it is a controlled and simple environment. The only stone element is the sink that was created by adapting an ancient mortar found on the site.

In the living area the stone is the protagonist characterizing the entire space: the load-bearing structure of the house is brought to the surface enhancing the qualities and defects of the stone material that expresses its historicity telling the work done by the masons at the beginning of the century. To emphasize the memory of the past there is the presence of a square floor, floating on the living area crushing the space below and allowing more breathing only towards the stone wall. A light staircase leads to the open gallery on all sides. All the space used as a living area is characterized by the mezzanine, its continuous presence gravitates to a height of 240cm bringing back to the mind what it was.
