Located in the rolling hills of Brianza, in the town of Merate, Province of Lecco, R2+ has designed a 250 sqm single-family residence defined by clean, minimalist geometry.

The architectural composition is based on two simple volumetric operations involving a pair of rectangular volumes—one at ground level and the other on the first floor. By rotating and intersecting these two elements, the design achieves a striking and dynamic architectural expression.

Strong horizontal lines, including the flat roof and expansive terraces, define the building's character, while a restrained palette of light grey tones and generous floor-to-ceiling glazing create a seamless connection between the interior spaces and the landscaped garden surrounding the house.

The ground floor accommodates a spacious open-plan living area comprising the entrance hall, living room, dining area, and island kitchen, together with a guest bedroom, a bathroom, a pantry, and a garage with direct external access. The first floor, reached via a sculptural staircase featuring cantilevered treads and a frameless glass balustrade, houses four bedrooms—including a primary suite with a walk-in wardrobe—and two bathrooms.

The rotation between the ground-floor and first-floor volumes creates two generous, fully accessible terraces, each directly connected to the bedrooms and extending the living spaces outdoors.

The villa employs a traditional construction system, featuring a reinforced concrete structural frame with load-bearing masonry walls and an external thermal insulation system. It is also equipped with state-of-the-art building services, including a heat pump, underfloor heating, air-based cooling, and a mechanical ventilation with heat recovery (MVHR) system, ensuring outstanding energy efficiency and enabling the home to operate independently from fossil fuel energy sources.
