This renovation takes us to the historic center of Porto Alegre, where a 40m² apartment on the 17th floor of a 1970s building reveals a careful and creative approach with a view of Lake Guaíba. The restoration of the existing parquet floor is a gesture of respect for the apartment's history. The floor is preserved and extended into the kitchen area.
The exposed concrete, revealed by the removal of plaster from a beam and a pillar that appeared due to the demolition of walls, adds texture, recalling the brutalist aesthetics of the building's construction in the 1970s.
The separation between the kitchen area and the private area is achieved through a functional wall composed of a custom-made piece of furniture that serves both sides. This 2.10-meter-tall cabinet, which doesn't reach the ceiling, maintains visual permeability and allows for the placement of plants. The pillar and the piece of furniture structure the dining table, creating a versatile space.
The lighting is designed to enhance the materials and create pleasant atmospheres. The kitchen is lit from top to bottom, while in the living room, the light is distributed softly from bottom to top, providing comfort. This renovation has transformed the space with sensitivity and respect for its history, creating a balanced and cozy environment.
