A contemporary Turkish restaurant in North Rhine-Westphalia

Beymen Restaurant & Cafe Dortmund sits in North Rhine-Westphalia, the region where the Turkish community in Germany has its deepest roots and where Turkish entrepreneurship has grown for generations. For a Turkish restaurant here, the challenge is twofold: to remain authentic to its cultural origins, and to meet the expectations of a contemporary European dining audience.

Tradition in a current language

Rather than relying on literal motifs, the design reinterprets references from Turkish culture through a contemporary architectural language. Warm, timeless materials are paired with modern details, so that the traditional character of the cuisine is felt in the atmosphere rather than displayed as decoration. Lighting and the colour palette were composed to hold this balance between the familiar and the new, and the same consistency was carried through the flooring and the furniture.

A space for long tables and short lunches

Turkish dining is social by nature. The restaurant is designed for long family meals as much as for business lunches, and the indoor dining room and the terrace are treated as one continuous experience. Warmth and hospitality guided every decision, from the arrangement of the tables to the intensity of the light in the evening.

Made in Turkey, installed in Dortmund

The project was delivered as a partial turnkey commission. Custom furniture, bespoke lighting and decorative elements were produced by the studio's manufacturers in Turkey, exported and installed on site, while local teams carried out the construction works under the studio's coordination. This model allowed the design intent to be controlled down to the detail, while working within German building standards and local practice.

Beymen Restaurant & Cafe Dortmund is part of the studio's long-standing work for the Beymen restaurant chain in Germany and the Netherlands, where each venue shares a common identity while responding to its own city.
