The project involves the complete renovation of a former industrial warehouse, located in an area of Milan undergoing a significant urban regeneration.
The site boasts unique features, including elongated spaces that allow an uninterrupted line of sight and zenithal lighting provided by various skylights.

The narrow and elongated nature of this space has guided the internal layout, creating an enfilade.
In sequence, starting from the direct street entrance, there is a guest room primarily used as a studio, a corridor housing the main internal access, laundry, and a shared bathroom, leading to the main living area.
The latter consists of a kitchen with a central island and a spacious dining area that opens onto a small private courtyard through a system of ribbon windows.
Pre-existing sliding doors in weathering steel separate the dining area from a space dedicated to relaxation.

This area is zenithally lit and defined by a mezzanine, treated as a distinctive volume, serving as both an architectural element and filter between shared and private areas. Under the mezzanine a custom-made walk-in closet provides access to both the bedroom and the ensuite bathroom.
The design approach has been centered on creating unique spaces through the use of materials, colors, and finishes, rather than establishing a uniform environment where each function carries equal weight.

The choice of flooring has been crucial in this regard. The pre-existing concrete floor has been retained to respect the site’s original character, while terrazzo tiles define the kitchen and its island, linoleum has been employed for the relaxation area, colored resin matching the mezzanine’s color has been used for the walk-in closet, and neutral resin has been applied to the bedroom and the ensuite bathroom.
Overall, the approach has been maximalist, departing from the concept of an excessively minimal and neutral space that has dominated loft renovations for years.

The aim was to create a highly personalized home that reconciles the original character of the space with the contemporary domestic needs of the clients.
Hence, carefully preserved materials and industrial elements coexist harmoniously with those chosen for the project.
A healthy dose of irony has been employed to create contrasts and unique moments, such as the staircase leading to the mezzanine and the curtain that closes it, or the striking chandelier used to illuminate the dining table.

A blend of styles, historical periods, contemporary and vintage pieces contributes to crafting a lively environment that is aware of the limitless potential of interior design and architecture.
